HCL launches ME Y2 ICS tablet for Rs 14,999

HCL has launched the ME Y2 Ice Cream Sandwich powered tablet in India for Rs 14,999. The 7-inch tablet rocks a capacitive display with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels, a 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor, a Mali 400 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB ROM, a microSD card slot with support of up to 32GB of storage, a 2-megapixel rear camera and 0.3-megapixel front facing camera.

The tablet also features a 4,000 mAh battery and has a built-in SIM slot for 3G. Unlike most lost cost tablets, the HCL ME Y2 supports 3G via a SIM rather than USB dongles, however the device also comes loaded with a plethora of ports including a mini-USB port. HCL also loads its ME app store on the device for applications, however access to the Google Play market remains blocked which is a big downer as all Android applications are not available on the ME app store.

At a price 14,999, the HCL ME Y2 tablet competes with the likes of the new Reliance 3G tab and the iBall Slide. Due to the absence of the Google Play store, we believe the HCL ME Y2 starts off at an disadvantage.

  • 8GB ROM
