How to Prepare for YOUR next job interview! Tips

A job interview generally freaks us out.How you perform in the interview decides whether you get the job or not. Sometimes, inspite of all the technical and educational skills you have in your favour, you do not get the job. Simply because you could not manage the interview well.

Here are some common tips which if followed can help you land that dream job.

1. Never lie in a job interview

Although it looks extremely flattering and easy to lie, you must avoid lying in a job interview.
Give honest and truthful replies even if they are embarrassing.

For instance, if you have failed in a class and you are asked about it, you must be honest in your answer and handling such questions

If you have had a lot of job changes, be prepared to face questions like 'Why did you leave your last job?' and 'Why so many jobs?' in the interview.

In such instances, never blame your boss or your past jobs. You must never show to the employer that you are incapable of taking responsibilities of your failures or inefficiencies.

You must always try and give positive responses in the interview.

For instance, your answers about job change will demonstrate how it will be to work with you.
You may try saying something like, 'I like to learn variety of things as it helps me understand organisational functions.

You must always try to be professional throughout your interview.
Never crack jokes on sensitive topics.
Try not to be rude on any issue.
If you are accidentally rude during the interview, apologise immediately and carry on with the rest of the interview genuinely.

Appearing too nervous or too confident in an interview can both prove to be hazardous for you.
Studies show that the decision to hire a person is generally made in the first few minutes of the interview.

Hence, your first impression, in most of the cases, is the last impression. If you appear to be too nervous, it puts a question mark on your abilities to do the job and if you are too confident, it questions your ability to work in a team.
You must try to appear normal and flexible enough in a job interview.

Be prepared for the interview and probable questions.
Do read your CV carefully and know how you will prove to be a strength for the organisation.
Always remember to carry all the relevant documents along with you. Also do a complete research about the company and its operations.

A job interview is a platform to market yourself by showcasing your strengths.
It is an opportunity for you to prove to the employer that you have right skills, experience and background to fit in the culture and needs of the organisation.

Never mention about the people you don't gel well with.
If you find it difficult to get along with a certain type of people, you must never mention it in your job interview. It will be held against you in the later stages of selection.

You might face a common question like: How will you deal with a conflict situation.

A branch of this question will also be: How will you resolve the situation without affecting your relationship with your colleague/manager? As mentioned earlier, do not blame others for the problems. If you accidentally break the rule, you must give valid reasons for your disliking and ensure that you do not leave an impression that you can't work in a team.

If your first impression is good, then in most of the cases, the interviewer overlooks your further mistakes.

Watch out for your body language -- how you enter the room, how you sit and present yourself creates an impact on the interviewer.
If you are able to cruise through this drill with confidence, it will help you carve your first impression.

One of the biggest reasons that stimulates the fear of interviews is the fear of rejection. The only way you can overcome this fear is with a positive attitude and self-confidence.

Flexibility is a very important parameter.
An interviewer will always judge you on the basis of your capability of accepting changes and adjusting to the changes in your environment.

Never ask for an unreasonable salary.
This shows your lack of interest in the job and your greed for money. Do your homework well before the interview and find out what are people in your profile getting as remuneration.

Also check what the industry standards are.At the same time, if you feel that you deserve the salary you seek, lap it up with reasons why.

Be sure about your preferences in a job.

You must evaluate whether the job requirements matches with your preferences.
During the interview stage you must enquire about the job profile and then decide whether you fit in or not.
You have to be aware of the demands of the organisation. This will help you decide the course of your interview.

Never promise something you cannot deliver. For instance, do not agree that you will work in night shifts or on holidays if you can't actually do so.

Keep these pointers in mind for your next interview. All the best!

Top Job Friendly diplomas for management graduates

The increasing demand for ready-to-be-employed, well-trained and skilled people in various industries has fuelled the need for several diploma and certificate courses, particularly in the management domain.

Most of such courses in management studies help the candidates cultivate add-on learning skills that aid in getting a raise in their remuneration and designation.

Here are some of the most sought-after courses in the domain.

 1. Environment/Energy Management

According to Energy Statistics 2012 published by Central Statistics Office (Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation) "serious energy shortages continue to plague India, forcing it to rely heavily on imports."

On the other hand, there is an ever-growing demand-supply gap in India, which is worsened by careless management of non-renewable sources of energy.

A diploma or certification in energy management equip the participants in learning about the energy scenario, infrastructure, finance, crisis management etc, and also trains to do research in emerging fields of energy management with vigorous industry inputs.

Where to study

The Management Development Institute (MDI, Gurgaon) offers a Post Graduate Programme in Energy Management. This AMBA-accredited programme trains professionals from the country's Energy and Power Sector and helps them in honing their skills while on the job.

Anyone with a minimum five years of work experience in an energy company, power corporation, or related areas in technical or non-technical roles can apply for the course.

The target group includes power distribution companies, oil marketing and power generation companies, NGOs, government agencies, consultancy firms and companies in energy domain.

The programme fee works to about Rs 6.5 lakh (approx.) for non-DoPT (Department of Personnel and Training) candidates including boarding and loading charges.

The courses in the energy/environment domain (though largely in distance learning mode) are offered by the TERI University (Advance PG Diploma), the Indian Institute of Energy Management, Chennai, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Tezpur University, Assam and the University of Pune, among others.

 2. Insurance & Risk Management

Does working in insurance companies or broking houses excite you? An add-on qualification in insurance and risk management, alongside your graduation could be the way forward.

Though insurance is a relatively known and mature area, it is in risk management that many firms are focusing and increasingly hiring people.

According to the year 2011's data by the Institute of Internal Auditors, the risk consultancy market is worth approximately $30 billion (Rs 1.6 lakh crore) globally. In India, the data reflects almost three-fold increase in the quantum of risk managers in  the last two years.

Risk management professionals are involved right from planning and strategy stage to final closure of transaction, ensuring that risk remains well within manageable levels.

Where to study

The Institute of Insurance and Risk Management (IIRM), Hyderabad offers a one-year International PG Diploma in Risk Management.

Hard work, commitment and seriousness are called for to pursue this course. The upper age limit for on campus programme is 30 years, however, this is relaxed for Distance Learning mode offered to working professionals.

Foreign institutions such as the Institute of Risk Management, London, Sawyer Business School, or Suffolk University Boston admit IPGDRM students to their CIRM without any examination.

The IRDA ( Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority ) also recognises IPGDRM as equivalent qualification to FIII, Mumbai for employment purposes.

The other institutes offering PG Diploma in the subject are Aligarh Muslim University, the University of Madras, Gurunanak Dev University, Amritsar and Dr Ambedkar Law University in Tamil Nadu among others.

This four-month course is designed with contemporary industry-oriented inputs. For add-on learning, students are assigned live projects and taken to dry ports and Special Economic Zones for hands-on practical knowledge of logistics operation and learn the various facets of foreign trade chain.

The Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research (WIMDR, Mumbai) offers a six-month part-time Diploma in Export Import Management. The course, sans internship, is open for class 12 pass outs, undergraduates with two years of work experience, diploma holders and graduates.

Considering the relatively shorter duration, we have to be focused. Many institutes offer training and career progression can be quicker wherein you could be at a managerial level with just three to five years of experience, depending on the nature of the employing firm.
Apart from core learning in the subject, the preferred skills for those willing to pursue a career in retail are relationship management and a strong customer service ethic.

A diploma course in Retail Management that has a compulsory internship with some organisation in the retail sector as a part of the programme is considered to be a good certification.

So, in case there are two candidates, where one has a three years degree certificate and another holds a diploma with internship, preference is given to the latter.

Top Five camera smartphones

Unlike yesteryear's when having camera functionality used to be the top end feature for a mobile phone, today almost all handsets can click images and record videos. Mobile phones today feature advanced optics, complex image sensors and a whole lot of new technology running in the background to support image and video recording on the phones.

1. Nokia PureView 808: 41 Megapixel (Rs 31,000)

This Nokia Symbian smartphone is highly applauded for its 41 megapixel image sensor which is by far the maximum resolution ever to be supported by any smartphone.

Bearing the f/2.8 aperture, the 41 megapixel camera promises 7728x5354 resolution images in 16:9 formats along with full HD videos in 30 frames per second.

And it is just not all about the image sensor but the technology accompanying that makes this device the king of the hill.

Nokia 808 makes use of the PureView pro imaging technology that over samples the pixel captured by the image sensor to capture a perfect picture that has both clarity and depth. To do all the calculations and that too without any lag, Nokia has fitted a secondary or companion processor in the phone which has been tweaked for superfast image processing.

The Nokia 808 features a single-core 1.3 GHz mobile processor, which is being aided by a companion processor and 512 MB of RAM for optimal performance.

It is based on the Nokia Belle operating system. The smartphone comes with 16 GB on board storage and can support up to 64 GB micro SD card which will come in real handy while recording high definition videos.

2. Apple iPhone 4S: 8 Megapixel (Price Rs 43,500)

The Apple iPhone 4S comes with a 3.5-inch screen, as the earlier iPhone 4, with 640 X 960 pixel resolution.
Known as the Retina display, this is the highest resolution bearing display ever built into a phone. The display has also been treated with a special oleo phobic coating which is very useful for the Indian environment as it prevents smudges.

The phone has got an 8 megapixel camera as compared to the 5 megapixel of the earlier version. The iPhone 4S's camera has an LED flash for illumination. The 8 megapixel snapper uses the one of the best image sensors to reproduce life like colours with detail and variance. The camera can also record full HD 1080p videos and get functionalities like touch focus and Geo tagging.

The newly released iOS 6 and a mighty faster dual core processor make it easier to edit and share pictures.
Users can also make use of the Apple's free iCloud service to store their pictures.

Apple is offering 5 GB of space free on iCloud to the users of its devices.

3. Nokia N8 with Anna: 12 Megapixel (Price Rs 18,899)

Many camera phones have come and gone but Nokia's N8 still continues to top the charts all due to its amazing camera quality.

The Nokia N8 boasts Carl Zeiss optics, a 12 megapixel 1/1.183-inch optical format CCD image sensor, Xenon flash with automatic red-eye removal and auto focus.

This type of a sensor has never been used in a camera phone before and this makes the N8 so unique. The powerful sensor allows the phone to capture images that are far better in terms of resolution and variance.

With the Symbian Belle upgrade, the Nokia N8 has gotten newer video recording capabilities, with continuous auto focus, while recording HD 720P videos. After the update, the Nokia N8 can record videos in 30 frames per second as opposed to 24 frames per second speed.

Not just the camera, the N8 is an equally excellent device with good hardware and a very responsive and vibrant 3.5-inch touchscreen which makes usage of this device a breeze. The speedy 600 MHz processor might sound puny in front of the bigger multi-core competitors but it has been optimised so beautifully for the device that there is virtually no lag in anything you do on this device.

4. Sony Xperia S: 12 Megapixel (Price Rs 28,999)

Sony Xperia S, was the first smartphone to carry the new standalone Sony logo, and is the first smartphone that Sony released after it acquired shares of Ericsson.

Sony Xperia S is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon MSM 8206 processor and 1 GB of RAM for faster performance. Its 4.3-inch HD display comes with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and runs Android 2.3.7 operating system, which can be upgraded to Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.

There is a 12 megapixel camera capable of recoding full HD videos which utilises Sony's Exmor sensor technology that helps in taking quality images in low light conditions.

The Exmor sensor for mobile devices is not new as it has been Sony's patent for mobile devices and has also been the crown jewel for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc devices.

Also there is a burst mode which allows users to take multiple images form the device in continuation for fast paced action such as sports, fireworks and even dance. On the connectivity front the Sony Xperia S features 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC capability.

The Samsung Galaxy S III has a 4.8-inch, HD Super Amoled display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution that has PenTile pixel arrangement (two sub-pixels per pixel) and has about 306 pixels per-inch pixel density. By default, this display supports 1280x720 pixel resolution and is hailed as the best display ever to feature on a smartphone.

The phone's 8 megapixel camera features a sensor that is back-side illuminated (BSI), allowing for more light to come in for the shot. There's also the burst/best shot feature, which lets you take up to 20 shots in quick succession and then choose to leave only the best one. This is all possible thanks to the zero-shutter lag, which means that it takes less than a second for the phone to auto-focus, a feature introduced by Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

How to make exercise fun: Ten ways to make exercise fun

You want to get in shape but you dread going to the gym. In fact, you dread exercise period. You don’t like to sweat and, even though you know it’s good for you, you’ll book an appointment for a root canal before you’ll make one with a personal trainer.
So, what do you do? How do you keep your body fit and trim when you’re convinced that you’re allergic to exercise?
Being active doesn’t have to be a chore. If you don’t like to run and you think that the only way to stay at a healthy weight is to spend half hour a day on a treadmill, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Of course you’re not going to stick with it.
The key to incorporating exercise into your lifestyle is to make it fun. If it’s something you look forward to, you’re more likely to do it. You’re probably thinking that there’s no way you’d ever look forward to exercise, and if you continue to look at it like you always have then you’re right. But, now it’s time for a new way of thinking.
What if you were told that spending half hour a day playing games is good for your health? Would you do it? Chances are that you would because it sounds like fun. Remember when you were a child and you jumped rope or played tag for hours on end? You can get that same type of enjoyment out of being active again if you choose to. How?
Here are some ideas that may re-ignite your childlike passion to go and go until you just can’t go anymore:
  1. Do it with a friend. In this hurried up world, it’s often easier to justify time with friends if you’re doing something productive in the process. Work up a sweat together while you solve life’s problems.
  2. Join a group class. This is great because you don’t have to start with a friend, but chances are good you’ll end with one. Check your local recreation center or gym for options.
  3. Play a sport. Workouts don’t have to be confined to exercise machines and weights. Play basketball, soccer or racquetball. Before you know it, you’ve got in a workout – and probably some laughs too.
  4. Listen to audio books while you exercise. This is a great way to pass the time if you’re a clock watcher. Get engrossed in a thriller or mystery while getting your heart pumping and muscles strong.
  5. Buy new workout clothes. Nothing is more fun than showing your weight loss progress in cute new clothes. Flaunt it, baby! You earned it!
  6. Chart your progress. If you were only able to do three minutes on the stair-stepper when you started exercising and now you can do twenty, seeing that progress motivates you to keep going. Aim to continue to beat your old records.
  7. Add variety. Even if you love to dance, if you do it every day to stay in shape it will become a chore. Commit to trying something new every two or three months. Not only will you solve the boredom issue, your body will be in better shape because you’ve worked it differently.
  8. Take your measurements versus weighing yourself. Measurements are more accurate than a scale because it doesn’t account for body fat, water weight or muscle weight. Of course, you’ll feel it when your clothes become loose, but tracking your measurements is as motivating as charting your progress.
  9. Listen to music or watch TV while you work out. If you like machines like the treadmill or elliptical, but find that you get bored, TV shows and music playlists make great distracters. Of course, if you start singing “Who Let the Dogs Out” at the top of your lungs with your headphones on, you’ll probably be a great distracter to others also.
  10. Relax after each activity session for just five minutes. Try to find a place that is quiet and allows you to focus your thoughts and clear your head at the end of your workout. You’ll start to look forward to this time to rejuvenate and just be. Pat yourself on the back for all that you’ve accomplished. You deserve it!
There are many more things you can do to keep being active fun and exciting. What are some things that you’ve tried that others may benefit from trying also?

Nissan Evalia Priced at Rs 8.49 lakh

Nissan has launched their people mover in India, the Evalia. Starting at a price of Rs 8.49 lakh, ex-Delhi and available in four trims, the Evalia will compete with the likes of the Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo.

The Evalia has an 85PS K9K engine with 200Nm of torque being available from 2000rpm. A 5-speed manual transmission transfers all the power to the front wheels. Nissan claims a fuel efficiency of 19.3kmpl.

Inside the cabin, the lack of a transmission tunnel intrusion means that the Evalia promises lots of space for passengers. Also, the third row occupants have their own aircon vents and controller. There's also quite a bit of luggage space even with the third row up.

The front end is very funky looking with smart swept back headlamps and bulging wheel arches. Standard safety features in the Evalia include ABS and EBD with a reverse camera being offered on the top of the line trim.

Nissan Evalia prices - Rs 8.49 lakh for XE, Rs 8.92 lakh for XE , Rs 9.49 lakh for XL and Rs 9.99 lakh for XV ex-Delhi. The Evalia then offers excellent space coupled with a decent drivetrain and kit levels.

List of New Features for Apple iPhone 5

Apple hosted one of its patented "special events" in San Francisco on Tuesday, this time announcing the pending launch of the iPhone 5 (as well as other products like the new iPod and iPad mini).

Leading up to the unveiling, many users had expressed concerns about the newest iPhone, such as a smaller dock connector, the need for adapters, competing technology, and even the name “iphone5” being inappropriate, seeing as it is the 6th iPhone product.

Tim Cook of Apple took the stage and started the event by announcing that Apple stores offer the best buying experience, with 380 stores in 12 countries. The iPhone 5 is expected to be released by the end of September.
They are, however, available for pre-order on September 14.
New features for the iPhone 5:

Phil Schiller, Apple’s top marketing exec, took the stage to bring up the news on the newest iPhone, calling it the phone that “changed phones forever”. This year, they seek to set a new bar with the iPhone, just as they have done with every iPhone before it.

As the iPhone is presented, Schiller calls it an “absolute jewel”. It’s got a metal two-toned back and is slightly taller than the last iPhone. Viewers say it looks “exactly like the leaks”. It is made entirely of glass and aluminum, with buttons in the same places. It is the “thinnest Apple phone ever”, at 7.6mm thick (18% thinner than the iPhone4).

The Retina displays 326 pixels per inch, same as the iPhone 4. The new screen has a 4 inch display. The phone displays 1136 x 640 pixels with a 16:9 aspect ratio. This provides more visible email space above the virtual keyboard.

Software has been updated, including more e-mail and more web pages in Safari. There is also a 5-week view in Calendar, which shows more events. They apps have not been stretched or scaled to fit the new screen.

Touch censors have been built into the display itself, which is 30% thinner and less prone to glare.

The wireless is said to be “ultrafast”, and the phone as 4G LTE. The LTE has a single chip for voice and data, single radio chip, and a “dynamic antenna”. It can now switch antenna connections between different networks. Schiller says the networks that will support LTE in the U.S are Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon.

The new chip, the A6, is 2X faster than the A5, including graphics. It is 22% smaller than the A5 chip.

The battery life is 8 hours 3G talktime, 3G browsing. 8 hours LTE browsing, 10 hours Wi-Fi browsing, 10 hours video, and 40 hours Music. This is 225 hours of standby.

The iSight Camera has an 8 megapixel sensor, 3264x2448 resolution w/backside illumination, hybrid IR filter, five-element lens, f2.4 aperture, and is 25% smaller. The new Dynamic low light mode combines pixels in the dark, which gives you up to two f stops better performance in low light. There is also a built-in panorama mode for 28 megapixel panoramics. The video is also 1080 pixels with face detection for 10 people, and you can now take photos while shooting video.

The front camera has FaceTime HD with 720 pixel support, basckside illuminated sensor, and FaceTime now works over 3G with iOS 6.

The speaker now uses 5 magnets and takes up 20% less space.

The new connector is 80% smaller and can be plugged in either direction. The company also sells adapters. The new adapter is called “Lightning”.

iOS 6 will be running on the new iPhone.

The new 3D navigation can be dynamically adjusted with Siri as the guide. There is a new “flyover” effect.

The iCloud tabs sync up Safari bookmarks across Macs and iOS devices.
The price for the new iPhone is $199, same as the iPhone 4S, for 16GB. There is no 128GB model. It is $299 for the 32GB and $399 for the 64GB.
