Everyone has something to say about love. Whether it’s your mom, BFF or grandmother, it’s always open season when it comes to matters of the heart. But as helpful as all that advice can be, you'd best avoid these choice bits.

1.Believe You can change him.
Settling for less in hopes you can improve someone's bad habits or negative traits is a bad way to go about finding a guy. The next time someone tells you to stay with him because you can change him, do yourself a favor and don't take the advice.

2.Dumb yourself down.

The idea that an intelligent woman has to act dumber than she is to snare a guy is crazy and offensive, but it persists.  If a guy doesn't like you for who you are or is so insecure that he feels the need to date someone less intelligent than he is, you don't need him. If you're hiding your brilliance, you're making a big mistake no matter how gorgeous he is. No matter the dating situation, be yourself.

3.Wait for him to make a move.

Some modern love and dating books still tell you to sit back and wait for the man to make a move. While sometimes that's fine and playing hard to get can have its advantages, being proactive is OK. If you've been told to wait for the phone to ring, you've been given bad advice. If you want something, go for it.

4.Do what he wants.

Another bogus piece of love advice: It's better not to have opinions or make decisions when you're dating someone. While letting him choose some of the time is only fair, keeping all your opinions to yourself for fear of upsetting him is ridiculous. Try not to acquiesce to everything he wants at the beginning of the relationship, because you'll surprise him when you do start taking a stand. Rather than set yourself up for relationship disaster and future fights, allow your ideas and personality to shine through at all times.
