Pet food Containers

If you store your pet’s chow in a place that’s exposed to heat, moisture or air, don’t be surprised if it sniffs at its kibble and walks away without tasting it! Chances are that the food has turned rancid.  Storing dry pet food appropriately in proper pet food containers is crucial to maintaining its nutritional value and flavor. Here are some guidelines on how you can store kibble in the best possible manner:

  • Always store the pet food in a place that is cool and dry. Continuous exposure of the kibble to a damp and hot environment increases the chances of bacterial and fungal growth.
  • Preferably keep the pet food in the original packaging in airtight storage containers. These packages are designed to maintain the freshness of the food for longer. Never put the dry pet food directly into the storage bins as there is a probability that the residue of the previous stock may contaminate the fresh chow.
  • If you are buying the food in bulk, take out the portion that you are likely to feed your pet during the week and store it in a smaller container. Thereafter squeeze out as much air as possible out of the original pack, fold the top and clip it. Now close the lid of the container.
  • When you are buying a pet food storage bin, you can opt for a glass container, a plastic bin or a metal canister. Multiple pet owners often need to buy several kinds of pet food to cater to pets with different dietary requirements. Containers like the stackable vittles vault, that can be placed one on top of the other, form a convenient way of storing the kibble.
  • Each time you buy a fresh stock of kibble, remember to wash the bin with soap and warm water. Ensure that the container is completely dry before you place the new batch of pet food.
By following some precautions, you can make sure that the nutritional value of the dry pet food that you buy is preserved and that it stays fresh for longer. Thus your pet will remain healthy even as you save on the food costs due to minimum spoilage and maximum savings on bulk purchases.
